Introduction
1. Educational Objectives
In the 21th century, various new materials and media have been introduced and in combination with traditional techniques, have extended the understanding of art, pushing beyond conventional genres and divisions. Transart has emerged as a new concept in contemporary art. We recognized this trend early on in the contemporary art scene and have been a forerunner in establishing the new study program of the Major of Transart.
In this major, students can learn practical skills and theoretical backgrounds centered on a wide range of materials including but not limited to: traditional materials and techniques of sculpturing, photo, video, new media, sound art and installation. Through a diverse curriculum, we support students with varied skills and backgrounds ranging from traditional crafts through digital media who seek to transition into the field of multi-disciplinary art and create works on the cutting edge of today’s art practices.
2. Great Facilities
Our facilities encompass spacious painting studios, high-end Transart studios, equipment loan center, photographic studio, black-and-white photography dark room, digital and analog print workshops, computer lab, 2D/3D multimedia lab, clay modeling workshop, stone sculpture workshop, metal and wood workshops.
The Chunma Art Center Gallery at Yeungnam University provides a Museum level exhibition space and our campus features a world class central library with an outstanding selection of Art books and periodicals.

- Due to the rapid development of digital technology in the 21st century, the arts culture has been drawing attention as a major field of culture industry by expanding its development into new media and fields. This lecture examines the changes in art culture in the digital era, its impact on society, and its future prospects.
1- 1 - SEMINAR FOR ACADEMIC LIFE
- 1. Summary of the course This course is to assist university freshmen in CRM designing to adapt university life well through the instruction and counselling of supervising professor. (This course is composed of self analysis, personality type test, career research, instruction for the success of university life, career plan and direction setting, CRM designing method and CRM designing. The course should be teaching in classes of the students by supervising professor.) 2. Course objectives This course is to motivate the students before the mid term exam and provide students with self analysis, personality type test (MBTI or TCI) and career research (YAT test). Also, this course shall has a plan to instruct the students to enhance the efficiency of university life through career and time management. In addition, this course is to make a chance for the students to have practical assistance to university life by providing study method, report designing strategy and the information on academic system and various kinds of internal programs of the university. After the mid term exam, the students will be instructed to set the direction of career designing through continuous counselling of supervising professor and the students will be able to establish CRM designing and execution plan.
1- 1 - SOFTWARE AND AI
- Software and AI (Artificial Intelligence) course aims to educate the basic concepts of software and computational thinking to use them in various applications. It allows students of various majors to experience the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, such as big data, machine learning, and AI. It also introduces various applications of AI so that students can easily apply these technologies to their field of study. This course classifies the lecture types into three categories, and adjust the lecture difficulty according to the student's academic ability.
1- 1 - BASIC 2D GRAPHIC(1)
- Manipulation techniques on digital image are essential skills for any contemporary art practice. This class covers contemporary artworks using techniques of photo retouching and resolution enhancing as well as image stitching and composing. Not only experiencing techniques but also studying examples by contemporary artists will be discussed in detail.

- In order to express and utilize 'photographic images' freely, this course study original photography methods.

- Through the work that associated with the foam and space, learning about observe and approach to things. And also, utilizing a variety of materials, discover the infinitive possibilities of expression. While solving the limited conditions and disorders of the task, develop the perception ability of three-dimensions.
1- 2 - AN APPROACH TO THE KOREAN ART
- This course aims to understand the characteristics and identity of Korean beauty by investigating the history of Korean traditional painting, calligraphy, sculpture, architecture, crafts and ornaments.
1- 2 - CONVERGENCE- AND INTEGRATION-BASED THINKING AND WRITING
- The ability of analyzing and solving problems is emphasized as one of the conditions for survival in the 21st century and one of the core elements of creative capabilities. This course was designed to cultivate convergence- and integration-based creative capabilities, which are integrated problem-solving capabilities to collect, analyze and process knowledge and information by reinforcing the ability of analyzing and solving problems, recreate it in a synthetic fashion, and express it effectively through speech and writing. The course will help the students cultivate their synesthesia thinking and communication skills based on sympathy with other human beings, understanding of the community, and positivity or Gongseong that is sought after by Yeungnam University. Its ultimate goals are to promote the students' creative knowledge development and reinforce their writing capabilities consistently through "convergence- and integration-based thinking and writing as a problem-solving approach."
1- 2 - SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION AND SERVICE
- This course is to cultivate community sense as members of society and the global village for students in order to develop the basic knowledge required as global citizens. Especially, this course is to foster the spirit of cooperation, sharing, service, and creativity and study the social contribution and leadership to solving the challenges the global community faces. As a liberal arts course, it is centered to nurture a leader having the global capability to contribute to community development through learning the knowledge and the case on the value & logic of social responsibility focused on environmental preservation, social contribution, and good governance(ESG). This course aims to foster a generous mind, learn knowledge and technology and build the capacity to contribute to building a society towards a safer and happier world through the study of theory and practice.

- In essential quality of Specific outlook and versatile applications in print and digital display, illustrations by vector graphic are powerful and popular. In this class we develop projects together that apply vector graphics to an artwork with aesthetic and conceptual manners. Basic typesetting and desktop publishing are further subjects covered.

- This class aims to study about DSLR camera instruction which is the basic technique of photograph, basic photoshop and digital photo printing technology and compact flash. Also having a various type of work experience. Student can learn overall process from production and installation to promotion and communication. With this activity, establish their direction of work.
2- 1 - DIGITAL MEDIA ART(1)
- This is the basic process of producing digital video. For understanding and utilization of recording and editing, practice camera shooting and Premier Pro which is the basic tool of image video. With enjoy and analysis, understand video production, and based on this activity, produce their own digital video.
2- 1 - HUMAN BODY MODELING
- The lecture study about muscles and bones based on human anatomy, which are the basis of sculpture, and study and practice modeling features that appear in various poses and genders.
2- 1 - INTRODUCTION OF CONSERVATION SCIENCE
- We will study the concepts and the field, research methods of art conservation and restoration, and learn the basic knowledge, such as the fine arts and humanities and natural science as an expert in art conservation and restoration.
2- 1 - MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES OF WOODEN ART
- We will study about the properties and expression of tree and lacquer. We learn the fractionation and characteristics of the trees, and suitable methods and techniques for the conservation of tree and lacquer finish.
2- 1 - METAVERSE AND DIGITAL SPACE BY COMPUTING ART
- - Cultivating the metaverse industry and related human resources, which have been nurtured and supported by the current government as a national task. - Education related to computer graphic technology and equipment operation while creating and utilizing a creative virtual space using metaverse (special, ZEPETO, blender. motion tracking, metaport, 3D space scan, drone 3D scan, Oculous 3D goggles operation, etc .) - Space production using metaverse, educational cooperation with game and exhibition companies - Through the related graphic technology, the educational effect required by the industry (game directing, mobile game design, game background designer. interior, civil design, etc.) and related educational effects such as digital content 3D character and 3D image design. - Help students understand the metaverse and increase their understanding and adaptability through exchanges with related industry companies. - High-efficiency 3D model data education that maintains an appropriate level considering the characteristics of 3D modeling to build a metaverse environment(running quickly in 5G or L TE mobile communication). - Education for building a basic metaverse environment through relevant 3D technology and practice such as composition. character, and space production required in the metaverse
2- 1 - SHAPE RESTORATION TECHNIQUE
- For practicing technique to repair the pieces of various materials, study Reconstruction Technology diverse material like iron, bronze, wood, FRP. Also research rational methods about scientific preservation and restoration to maintain the shape of a semi-permanent and storage and management of the material obtained.
2- 1 - SOFTWARE ART(1)
- Students study works through the use of various software in contemporary art, learn the basic programming language, and practice production through creative applications.
2- 1 - SPACIAL PLASTICS
- Identify the components of the space and molding characteristics and learn about the aesthetic visual experience and figurative representation of concept of the space. Consists the relationship of form and space of creative and rational self-expression and research about various image according to the selected time division and space, as well as space alteration..
2- 1 - THEORY OF TRANS-ART(1)
- The theory of Trans-art aims to analyze the characteristics of contemporary art by looking at various artistic attempts that have expanded the concept and scope of art in combination with technology media from the past. Part I analyzes the transartistic characteristics found in the history of pre-modern art and Part II focussing on contemporary art after modern times.
2- 2 - BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY(2)
- For understand the basic principle of photograph, practice the techniques of manual film camera and black and white darkroom photograph, making pinhole camera and printing, as well as non-silver prints. Among producing the various analog photograph, develop the creative thinking of photograph.
2- 2 - DIGITAL MEDIA ART(2)
- This is the intensive course of Making of Digital Video(1). Study about shooting and video editing tools. Analyze and discuss video art, experimental video, documentaries, short films and music videos. Also produce originative storytelling video art.
2- 2 - FINE ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
- This curriculum is one of the required subjects for the second-grade arts and culture educator to acquire job competence in the field of arts, aimed to understand the principle of basic program development for art education as a part of the arts and culture education and develop the efficient and creative programs based on the principle. For that, this curriculum intends to strengthen the necessary capabilities for developing the arts education programs by making and demonstrating the teaching plans.
2- 2 - LIGHT AND STUDIO TECHNIQUE
- In this class, student learn about principles and operation of light that is the basic tool of photographic image light. Studying about size of the light and shadow, effects of the reflected light on a surface, methods for determining the shape of the reflecting material of the subject, and method of application of studio lighting equipment and various technique of medium and large size cameras, and practice figures and still lifes, location shooting.
2- 2 - MODELING MOVIE PROPS
- Research a variety of props production methods needed for movie-making. Also, practice the methods of using alginate and silicone which represent the extreme realism of the object , molding technique and handling styrofoam.
2- 2 - SOFTWARE ART(2)
- The class is going to study one of a basic computer programme ‘Processing’ as the interactive art class. The ‘Processing’ is used to a multiple media art tool that is applied for visual effects from simple 2d to build 3d objects and utilizing. This is also a study of the digital image by coding which extends the diversity of art scene beyond paint.
2- 2 - TERRA COTTA
- In this class student practice about molding method of pinching, modeling, coiling with clay and molding techniques with tablets. And study about concerning the properties of different intensity and color of the shape which appears after the firing. As well as research Fire effects due to changes in temperature and use of the furnace, a visual representation of the calcined clay with a complex molding techniques and the material and the properties that apply to a specific work of terracotta.
2- 2 - THEARY OF TIME AND FOAM
- The purpose of this class is to examine the characteristics of pictorial images, photography and visual arts, focusing on the timeliness considered to be a major attribute of art. To this end, modern and contemporary art images, photographs, and video works are analyzed.

- This course helps students understand the overall process of 3D graphics and practice. It explores the close connection between art major students and their graphics capabilities. Through the course students train their ability to observe and learn practical techniques in the 3D Max Basics program.
3- 1 - INSTALLATION ART(1)
- For developing the expression methods installation arts, using diverse media. Create the unique concepts through research and experimental thinking. Also, develop a production capacity of time and space through the media, and installation art research.
3- 1 - INTERRACTIVE ART(1)
- This course aims to study of the interaction of the media arts to induce active participation of the audience about the work of art. Explore the background of develop and characteristics of interactive art, the technical elements and new trends. Also, through analysis of work, finishing the interactive work of active art form that communicate with the audience actively.
3- 1 - LOGIC AND STATEMENTS OF FINE ARTS
- This course researches on a logical mind, analysis and description of work, and systematic sentence for work analysis. Especially, through seeing the work creatively with combination and analysis, combining and dismantling, imagination and transformation, solve the functions of a visual free reading.
3- 1 - MAKING DIGITAL CONTENTS(1)
- This course studies the specialty and diversity of digital contents that can be expressed in various interfaces through the in-depth process of digital image production (1) and (2) for the second year. Practice creative digital content creation through creative story composition.
3- 1 - MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES OF METALLIC ART
- This class aims to understand characteristics of the metal material such as iron and non-ferrous metal, and practice producing skills through welding and cutting techniques. In addition, acquire the manual of tools, technique of handling and partination, also, preservation methods of the surface.
3- 1 - PHOTOGRAPHY EXPRESSION
- Understanding the nature and role of photo, and ensure the meaning of cameramen and photographer. Also analyze the various photo work of national photographer. Based on this activity, complete the photo work with one’s own story, and check the direction with presentation and discussion.
3- 1 - SOUND ART
- Sound Art is a term that describes a variety of audible art forms. For visual artists, sound has become increasingly attractive as a medium. Experimental musical pieces, audio-walks, interview projects, sound scapes and field recordings are just a small example of projects that require technical know-how and a profound knowledge of the artistic discourse.
3- 1 - VR & AR(1)
- VR & AR classes are the latest media content techniques that are actively progressing and developing. Students learn various methods of applying 3D modeling data and animation data to VR devices, and study how to use and apply digital content to future industries while leading 3D modeling and game engine tools.
3- 1 - THEORY OF TRANS-ART(2)

3- 2 - INSTALLATION ART(2)
- This course studies various works by applying media installation art that can be extended and developed from indoor exhibition spaces to public boundaries and develops new installation art methods.
3- 2 - INTERRACTIVE ART(2)
- This is an in-depth course of interactive art (1), a practical course for creative work research through the fusion and complex application of various software and hardware. (It is recommended to take courses in software art (1) and (2) in the second year course.)
3- 2 - MAKING DIGITAL CONTENTS(2)
- As an in-depth process of digital content production (1), we study concept composition and storytelling, and produce personally-created content with completeness through the in-depth process of 2D/3D video production and expression techniques.
3- 2 - MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES OF STONE ART WORK
- In this course, student study about the properties and expression of stone, such as granite and marble. Focus on the handling of the material by the inherent beauty and formative characteristics of natural materials of stone, and practice characteristics, suitable for the type of stone and the surface of the cleaning effect.
3- 2 - TEACHING METHODOLOGY OF FINE ARTS
- This course aims to understand the meaning and goal of arts education, steps of arts activities advancement, analysis of arts curriculum in secondary education, methods of arts guidance and evaluation the whole arts education curriculum with its historical backgrounds.
3- 2 - VR&AR(2)
- VR & AR (2) class aims to develop and research practical contents. We study contents that connect with the public and various expression methods that can be realized in public places.
3- 2 - THEORY OF THREE-DIMENSIONAL STRUCTURE
- It is a class that examines the history of sculpture art, ranging from ancient sculpture art to modern art, focusing on spatiality and exploring various possibilities for contemporary and future sculpture arts.
